Chamonix is a renowned resort in the French Alps at the bottom of Mont Blanc. It is situated 80 km southeast of Geneva, and driving time using the Blanche (A40) motorway is around one hour. Chamonix is connected to Italy by road, in 20 minutes, via the tunnel under the Mont-Blanc.

TO AVOID

ORIENTATION
Chamonix is located on the northwest part of the Alps, near the point where the Swiss, French and Italian borders all merge. The valley, with about 17.5 km of extension, has around 10.000 inhabitants.
To the northwest rises the rocky Le Brévent (2400m) and Aiguilles Rouges (3000m), and on the southeast, is the remarkable Mont Blanc.
BEST TIME TO GO
The ski season starts from late November and finishes in May. Generally January and March are the best months to go. In February it usually gets too crowded due to the French schools holidays.
In summer this resort is also ready for you, with hiking trails, mountain bike tracks, rock climbing, rafting and paragliding, between other.
HOW TO GET THERE
The Geneva Airport is the nearest one, and there is a highway that allows you to get to Chamonix within one hour. There are many bus and taxi services making this connection.
TRAVELLING AROUND
The local Chamonix bus network services the entire Valley, from the village of Servoz to the village of Le Tour. It also takes you to all the different lift areas.
Many hotels also provide free shuttles that stop in the most important ski areas.
TIPS
The weather in the mountains can change very fast, and therefore you should always get informed on the latest forecast. At Vallée Blanche the presence of a mountain guide is strongly advised.
