Algarve is the southernmost region of Portugal, on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean and the most popular holiday sun & beach destination in the country.
Algarve has from very lively seaside areas to relaxed and hidden beach resorts, as well has natural sights like the Ria Formosa and the Monchique mountain.
It is also a popular Golf destination, with over 30 courses spread throughout the region. With over 100 beaches with beautiful landscapes and clear blue water, this is the place to be when it comes to sun and sea holidays.
REASONS TO GO
Some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe.

The surrounding mountain areas with precious nature and dozens of hiking trails.
TO AVOID
The ugly towns of Quarteira and Armação de Pêra.
ORIENTATION
The Algarve has many cities, towns and villages, and also some islands and islets. The Ria Formosa lagoon is a natural reserve with over 170 sq kilometres and an important ecosystem for the region.
Faro is the capital city of the region, which has other important centres such as Albufeira, Portimão, Lagos, Loulé, Olhão, Silves, Tavira, and Vila Real de Santo António.
The southern coastline is about 155 kilometres long and is absolutely outstanding with its scenic limestone caves, particularly around Lagos, accessible only by boat.
The region is marked by gold, green and blue colours and by the smell of the sea and the scent of wild flowers and pine treas.
Other thing that makes this region so special it’s its architecture. The white houses with remarkable beautiful chimneys, the church belfries and the museums, all disclose memories of the past history of Algarve, under the Moorish occupation. In those times, the moors called the region "Al-Gharb", which means "the country of the West", and from where it then became Algarve.
BEST TIME TO GO
All year round, the Algarve enjoys a great weather, with mild winters and hot dry summers.
It is a region gifted with beaches of fine white sand all along its wide coastline and a peaceful sea with water temperatures of around 22°C in the summer period.
