ORIENTATION

The River Limmat splits the city of into two distinct halves the east bank and the west bank.

Niederdorf, on the east bank is where the beautiful university is located, as well as the twin towers of the Grossmunster. It has also many shops and cafés.

The west bank corresponds to the old part of town, around the Lindenhof area with streets full of fashion stores and offices. The stunning spires of St. Peters Church and Fraumunster church decorated by Marc Chagall are close by as well. The Bahnhofstrasse is the most prestigious shopping street.

By rail

The 'S-Bahn' (suburban rail) is the regional rail system, used mostly by commuters but also a good way to get to various destinations outside the city centre.

By boat

There are two types of boat-based public transportation operated in Zurich: river buses and lake steamers.
