ORIENTATION

The city is divided in several districts. There are three typical downtown areas: Downtown, Med Centre and Rice and the Uptown or The Galleria Area.

The central downtown has an elegantly reconstructed old-town area and an open-air heritage museum in the nearby Sam Houston Park.

 

BEST TIME TO VISIT

Spring and fall are the best times to visit Houston, with pleasant temperatures. Winter is also quite good, with mild and dry days.

 

HOW TO GET THERE

The George Bush Intercontinental Airport is located about twenty miles away from the downtown and is the major airport for Houston with many international and domestic flights daily. From taxi it takes between thirty to sixty minutes to the centre depending on traffic. There are vans and shuttles available to many downtown and suburban locations for about $20.

You can also use the Metro´s Airport Direct service, which takes you directly from the Terminal C directly to the downtown Airport Direct Passenger Plaza (815 Pierce).

 

The William P. Hobby Airport, located seven miles south of downtown, provides many domestic flights throughout the USA. It is just fifteen minutes drive from downtown. Vans and shuttle buses from this airport to downtown and other locations cost about $15.

 

TRAVELLING AROUND

The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County - METRO is a major public transportation agency operating buses and light rails.
