New Orleans is a very famous city in South America, and the largest in Louisiana State. It is known for its historical roots, hot and humid weather, delicious food, amazing music, and great times. The city is being rebuilt and recovered after the damages caused by Hurricane Katrina in late 2005. New Orleans' tourism is revitalizing and the fantastic culture is alive and glowing.

ORIENTATION

The famous French Quarter is located in the centre of downtown. There, during the day you can find a big variety of shops, boutiques, antiques stores, and during the night, the Quarter becomes a lively place full of restaurants and blues bars. In the French Quarter you will also find the Jackson Square shopping area, the dock and the Aquarium of the Americas.

The beautiful houses in the Garden District are also worth visiting. Loyola and Tulane Universities and the Audubon Park are to be found in the University area. On the close banks of Mississippi River, you can board on a seven-mile river cruise.

 

BEST TIME TO VISIT

New Orleans has hot and humid summers, and warm winters. A good time to visit is between February and April, when the weather is most enjoyable, and also when the Mardi Gras and the famous Jazz Fest take place. From June until September, besides the humid weather, it’s also the hurricane season.

 

 

HOW TO GET THERE

By plane

The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is the main airport serving New Orleans. From there, it takes around 20 minutes to get to the Central Business District and the French Quarter.

To easiest way to get to the city centre is by taxi, but you can also use the airport shuttle or the Jefferson Transit Airport Express route E2.

 

By bus or train

Bus and train stations are next to each other, at the Union Passenger Terminal other at 1001 Loyola Avenue. Both Greyhound and Amtrak operate in this terminal. Greyhound has regular connections to Memphis, Atlanta and Baton Rouge. Amtrak has three routes passing through New Orleans: New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

 

 

TRAVELLING AROUND

RTA, the Regional Transit Authority runs the local bus service and three streetcar lines, which are a great tourist attraction.

There are also river ferries on the Mississippi River, free for pedestrian, crossing from the foot of Canal Street to the Algiers Point offering a great view over the river, the downtown, and the French Quarter.
